Night Terror

A creature literally made out of fear, the Night Terror is potentially the most dangerous being in the entire world.

These creatures are born in places of total darkness, when all hope is gone and nothing is left but pain and fear. They appear in times of famine, war, plague, and many other times of evil. Some dark beings have even created these creatures intentionally, weaving powerful spells of control into the being as it forms and using it as an unstoppable assassin.

The creature appears as a writhing mass of thick black smoke. It constantly shifts and contorts, making it almost impossible to hit in combat. The being feeds off of fear and pain, and will sow destruction wherever it goes. Its touch burns like fire, and can kill the strongest man in minutes. Even an immortal being can be destroyed by the creature, as the creature can wrap itself around them and slowly burn the entire body into little more than a charred skeleton.

These beings exists only during the night, fading with the light of dawn only to return the next night. They fear fire, and it can even harm them, but it is nearly impossible to completely destroy one with flames. Without a constant source of suffering, the creature will eventually fade back into the shadows from whence it came, only to return in the next great disaster.
